FAQ's - Getting To Know IP Exchange and IP Office

1. How is Covoda's network configured?
Both IP Exchange and IP Office operate on a private wide-area network, meaning it does not run over the public internet. Being on our own private network allows us to monitor and prioritize voice packets which provides outstanding voice quality. Off-net configurations via VPN are also available if you chose to stay on the public internet.

2. How good is the voice quality?
As stated in Question 2, we can guarantee the voice quality because calls travel on our private wide-area network. The quality is as good, if not better, than a traditional telephone.

3. How safe/secure is the network?
Our private wide-area network provides tremendous security unlike the public Internet. The network is monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is equipped with a variety of alarms and alerts.

4. Do any additional lines need to be installed in my office?
Covoda does not install any extra lines, and in most instances lines will be removed. All Covoda needs is one AT&T line to place our DSL signal on.

5. How long are service contracts?
IP Exchange contracts are two years and performance based. The equipment is pro-rated over two years and leased. IP Exchange phones are leased because they cannot be used anywhere else. Once the initial 2-year contract has expired, customers have the option to upgrade their phones and keep their current monthly bill at the same price, or keep their current phones and have a 25%-30% decrease in their monthly bill.

6. What type of switch and PBX do IP Exchange and IP Office use, respectively?
IP Exchange is equipped with an Avaya Definity 8700 switch. The 8700 is the largest and most powerful switch produced by Avaya and is used by other large establishments such as General Electric and the University of Maryland. IP Office uses Avaya's IP Office 500 PBX.

7. How long does it take to install and configure IP Exchange and IP Office?
From the time the initial contract is signed it typically takes ten (10) business days if an AT&T line is previously available. Brand new installations (new offices) typically take twenty (20) business days. If we need to convert a line from another telephone company the time varies from case to case.

8. During installation, what disruptions can I expect?
There is no downtime during installation, your old phone system and Covoda's system run concurrently until installation is complete and functioning with initial training completed.

9. What do I get for referring a new client to your service?
For every referral that joins Covoda, you receive $150 off your next month's invoice.

10. Does Covoda provide 24/7 support?
Covoda representatives can be contacted 7 days a week. If you have a problem please call us at any time.

11. What additional equipment is needed in my office?
With IP Office Avaya's IP Office 500 PBX will be at your office. Below are devices included with both IPX and IPO.
  • One router
  • One Power Over Ethernet (PoE) switch
  • Battery backup unit
  • DSL Modem
  • Patch Panel (if not previously installed)

  • 12. Does Covoda offer cordless phones or headsets?
We currently offer both wireless devices.

    13. How are minutes of usage charged?
Minutes of usage are charged at a flat monthly rate starting at 1,000 MOU and increasing by increments of 1,000 with no ceiling. If you go over your preset level, calls are $.02 a minute out of state and $.03 a minute in-state.

    14. Can I setup a phone at my house?
There are several different options if you chose to install an IP Exchange phone at your home. The first is an on-net remote phone, which features the identical set up as the phones in your office. An off-net VPN solution is also available which features a physical phone but operates off-net. Another option is an IP Softphone which operates through your computer and offers all the functionality of a physical phone.
